5 Honest Prayers for Overwhelmed ParentsSample
I’m aware of my propensity to overthink things, prayer included.
Once a religious expert stood up to test Jesus, asking what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus responded with a question, as He often did: “What is written in the law?”
The answer still stands, even in my cluttered and chaotic house, even now: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.” And the second part of it? “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
So when I pray for each of my kids, I pray for their:
Heart
Soul
Strength (body)
Mind
And I pray that in all things they would know the love of God so deeply that they would love themselves, and out of that would come an outpouring of love to the neighbor down the road and the neighbor across the world.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed in your day-to-day realities—and in the big wonderings of life too—remember that prayer doesn’t need to be complicated.
After all, Jesus kept it pretty simple.
Keep Going
Breathe in the realities of today; breathe out the worries of tomorrow. It’s easy to feel anxious about the world your kids are inheriting. May the Lord take your anxieties about what you can’t control tomorrow and use them to spur you into action for the things you can do today.
Breath Prayer
INHALE: Help me focus on today.
EXHALE: I won’t worry about tomorrow.
