SWHW Bible Reading Plan: September 2021

DAY 22 OF 22

Top Takeaway from Emily Copeland:

Nothing reminds us about the condition of our worship better than the Psalms. As I read Psalm 96, I realized all of the ways that I’ve been giving my worship away.

I’ve glorified the “numbing-out,” the reward of couch-time at the end of the day, the poor food choices, saying "yes" to too many things, and finding glory in the hustle and the grind.

In my routine of "numbing out,” I am reminded of and can dwell on verses like Psalm 96:4, “For great is the Lord and MOST worthy to be praised.”

When we are pulled in so many different directions, worship is our sacred song. It’s the gift we give back; it’s our greatest offering. We have to let the truth soak into our soul that God is MOST worthy to be praised. Scripture reminds us not to give our worship away to anything or anyone else.

We have Scripture like Psalm 96 as the anchor for our reality. And, it wasn’t a secret to me,  but this...This is why Scripture is so important; to see my life under the light of the truth that has never changed.

Scripture reminds me to:

Stop giving my worship away.

Stop living with overdue praise designed for God alone.

Stop neglecting the precious opportunities to get alone with my Father.

Worship directed anywhere other than to God will drain us. Worship to God gives life. And if worshipping God gives life, then I need to worship Him often and with everything that I have!

So as life continues to move forward at lightning speed, I can find rest, REAL rest, as I get alone with God, directing my praise to the One MOST worthy.

I need more of that today; don't you?

God, forgive me for giving my worship away when Your Word so clearly says that You are MOST worthy to be praised. More than the security of a paycheck, more than the consistency of a schedule, or the pursuit of finding worth in anything other than YOU. I will give You my overdue praise today and rest in Your presence. Thank You for Your Word that reminds me that You are MOST worthy. I love You. Amen.

About this Plan

SWHW Bible Reading Plan: September 2021

Using God's Word as the foundation for our conversation, every devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family and work; aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical 5-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
