Press Play: Helping Your Kids Build ConfidenceSample
When you bake a cake, you have to put the flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk, and baking soda all together. And if you leave out the baking soda, THE CAKE DOESN’T RISE. Instead of a cake, you’ll have a sweet, dense, chewy, somewhat edible, frisbee.
Today is the last ingredient of the confidence cake for our kids. It is ESSENTIAL. It will help them RISE in confidence and PRESS PLAY on life! Here it is:
God loves your children no matter what.
That’s right. God loves them whether they have that confident swagger or if they’ve been knocked down once again. He loves them when they’re on PLAY just as much as when they’re on PAUSE. GOD LOVES THEM ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT. Check this verse out:
I am absolutely sure that not even death or life can separate us from God’s love. Not even angels or demons, the present or the future, or any powers can separate us (Romans 8:38).
That right there is the last ingredient—the knowledge that no matter what happens, nothing will ever separate our children from God’s love.
When they think of the worst thing they have ever done––yup, that thing that they haven’t told anyone about––that didn’t separate them from the love of God. God loves them no matter what.
What are some things they do that make them feel further from God? It could be arguing with their siblings. It could be gossiping about their friends. It could be stealing from you, their parents. It could be cheating on their homework. Anything like that.
Now, I want them to pray this prayer with me, putting their answer into the blank:
Dear Jesus, I’m so grateful that You came to save me and give me freedom. I want to confess to You that when I ___________________________________, I feel separated from You. Thank You for teaching me that is a lie. I replace that lie with the truth that nothing can separate me from You and that You love me no matter what. Thank You for always being with me and never leaving. I love You and I pray these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
They should KEEP praying that prayer until they believe it. No, I don’t mean over and over again right now. Just pray it every day. A few times a day. Until they know and FEEL it is true. God is with them. He will never leave. And God loves them no matter what.
