Rest With Your FinancesSample
When I first felt the Lord challenge me to rest, I was a fairly new business owner. In my mind, if I didn’t check email, even for just a day, my business might explode. But I could feel him calling me to rest.
It started with a day. Terrified and scared, I didn’t open my email at all and chose not to respond to any business requests.
Then I sensed God leading me to take a sabbath week. I had taken a vacation but still kept watching email, and if something “urgent” with the business came up, of course, I would deal with that.
But this was different. I felt him leading me to take a bold step of faith and actually take a week of sabbath rest, as an act of faith. One where I intentionally passed up lucrative business opportunities in order to rest.
In the natural, it seems foolish, and of course, the world will never understand. But as a believer, if I truly believe that God will always provide my needs (Phil 4:19) and that he cares for the birds of the air of which I am more valuable (Matt 6:26), then I should be able to trust that he will work it all out.
As God has continued to stretch me with my sabbath practice, I have certainly missed some big business opportunities, as you might expect, but God has always provided something better.
Friend, God is faithful. And when we choose to rest in our business or financial lives, we have the opportunities to see miracles.
I encourage you today to choose time to stop working, to stop striving with debt payments, to choose to trust him with all of your financial life. As you allow his rest to refresh you and sustain you, I believe you’ll find there is more to it than you ever could have imagined.
