Breath of Life: 3 Breaths From God That Shaped HumanitySample
There was notable tension in the atmosphere. Fear has gripped the hearts of all Yahshua’s disciples in Jerusalem, as they hide in an upper room afraid of the Jewish leaders. The Pharisees and teachers of the law weren’t satisfied with the crucifixion of Yahshua; they want to bring a full reckoning to the move of God called the Way.
Fear tangibly polluted the air as the disciples breathed in the anxiety of the atmosphere. A creak in the stairs. There must be someone behind the locked door! They could feel a presence approach: a strange familiarity and unsettling doubt.
Suddenly, the impossible. A flash of light from the wall. A subtle vibration through the floor panels. Startled gasps and outbursts from the apostles. In a flash, a man who looks like Yahshua is stood among them, but somehow He emits a sweet fragrance, a glittering light, and immense power all at the same time.
Before Peter can respond out of fear to silence the commotion, Yahshua takes over: “Peace be with you.” Pulling back the robe overhanging his sleeve, the disciples can see the holes that tore apart flesh and penetrated the bones in His wrists. It is Yahshua. But He has a new body.
Indeed, the resurrected Jesus had just appeared in their midst. Suddenly, the atmosphere changed. Fear melted into joy. Awe gave way to wonder, and wonder turned to worship.
Now the resurrected Christ they had followed was about to fulfill the prophecies of Daniel, Joel, Ezekiel and many other prophets before them. Yahshua was about to breathe.
The Third Breath comes out of Yahshua’s lungs once again, but this time the breath is from the resurrected Jesus Christ, who has literally just conquered sin and death.
Reminiscent of that moment in the Garden of Eden, Yahshua, the Second Adam, breathed His name, “YAH…WEH,” over his disciples, and they received their first redeemed breath from Yahweh on earth. In that moment, their spirits were given new life and the promise of an eternal life with the Creator of everything.
John 20:22 says, “And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
In the Biblical narrative, the Breath of Life moves from the Father, to the Son, to The Holy Spirit. The complete unity of the Godhead is clearly shown. God breathes into humanity so that humanity can breathe God’s nature, love and presence into others.
The Holy Spirit is the holy breath of life. The Third Breath, which is the final and farthest-reaching breath that shapes humanity, is not only the breath of life, it’s the breath of eternal life. It is the breath of The Holy Spirit that makes you a new creation.
Prayer: Holy God, how we long to just rest here and just wait and breathe in Your presence. Thank You for Your power to calm the storms in our lives and to overcome sin and death. Thank You that You gave us the Holy Spirit so that all people can have fellowship and be empowered by You. Amen.
