Smelling like JesusSample

Can you recount a time where a certain scent brought you a vivid memory of your childhood, your youth, your country, your favorite person, or even your grandmother's food? It is amazing how powerful our sense of smell is! Neuroscience makes it very clear: our sense of smell and our memory are closely related due to the anatomy of the brain. My wife and I had Covid-19 in 2020, and one of the symptoms that I experienced, as many of those who had the virus can relate, was the loss of smell. At first it didn't seem so bad, but as days went by, I realized how important smell was. Among other things, we could no longer enjoy food, coffee, or perfumes. This led me to wonder why God connected our memories with our sense of smell, why smell is key in tasting food, and why the Bible often talks about aroma, fragrances, and smell. In Exodus 30 we notice that the first aromatic mixture was the anointing oil used for anointing the priests and consecrating to God everything it touched. The recipe came directly from God to Moses. The oil and incense were sacred. Nowadays, we no longer have to make this incense, because our lives and the way we live are an incense and a perfume for God and for the people around us. In this plan, we seek to become a pleasing perfume to God and desire to smell like Jesus.
