Legacy LeadershipSample
God is a generational God.
We are introduced to God’s timeless story in Genesis chapter 1. As part of creation, God made man and woman in His own likeness. From the very beginning, we were called to reproduce God’s image on earth - to bring Him glory from generation to generation. When God said, “Be fruitful and multiply”, He was declaring, “Stay connected to Me and reproduce My image on the earth.” This was His declared pattern for God’s children to follow.
It was Father’s intention that Adam and Eve would have a godly legacy to pass on to their children, their grandchildren, and future descendants. God’s original purpose was for generation after generation to walk with Him in the cool of the day and hear His heartbeat, as true sons and daughters.
Although Adam and Even sabotaged God’s commission, God restated it when He declared to Abraham that He would make him into a great nation. God promised him future generations and a blessing that would be evident in nations that would come from his lineage. He proclaimed, “I am a generational God.”
God’s intention for you is that you would be a generational leader, and a non-negotiable principle of all leadership is that you reproduce after your own heart. Generational leadership is internal. It is your DNA as a person, your walk with God, your relationship with people, your character, and your attitudes that truly determine your leadership. The level of your spiritual authority and your legacy in other people’s lives comes from the fruit of who you are internally.
What makes you a truly great leader, at any level, is not your expertise or your excellence. It is not your method or your gifts. All of these have a vital role to play and should be honoured, but the true greatness of a leader lies in your heart. The legacy of your leadership tomorrow can be seen in your DNA and character today.
