SWHW Bible Reading Plan: October 2021

DAY 1 OF 21

Top Takeaway from Sarah Martin:

The wall was built. The remnant gathered. Nehemiah, the Levites, and other leaders guided the crowd in worship and declarations. They consecrated themselves as a people group…set themselves apart and recommitted to living as God’s Holy and Chosen nation.

What did they not do? They didn’t make it about themselves. Rather, they made it about praising and declaring who God is.

“You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.” Nehemiah 9:6

I believe that when we actively choose to seek all of who God is in His nature, His goodness, His power, His glory…when we sit under the light of His glory…something happens. We expand our worship even more. And then, as we sit first under the light of God’s glory and knowledge of who He is, that light shines into every part of our heart and soul as He reveals to us who He made us to be.

Seek God first. That is the key.

So, today, let’s take a note from the Israelites who stood at this newly built wall,  and let’s make some declarations. Use these prompts in your prayer time this morning.

  • Lord, You are…
  • Show me the depths of Your power…
  • Teach me how much Your love covers the earth…
  • Forgive me for not seeking You first…
  • Will You remind me of who You say I am?

Father, we thank You that we can approach the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16) and that You desire that we seek the depths of Your character and nature. Show us more, Lord! We come with expectations today. Amen!

About this Plan

SWHW Bible Reading Plan: October 2021

With God's Word as the foundation, each devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family and work, aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical 5-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
