The Benefits of a Thankful HeartSample

The Benefits of a Thankful Heart

DAY 5 OF 5

We’ve seen many beautiful benefits of a thankful heart throughout the past few days and this last one is no exception. Let’s take a look today at how a thankful heart produces much fruit in the life of the believer. We know of course that the Fruit of the Spirit ultimately comes from the Spirit of God Himself, but how much more easily is the Fruit of the Spirit cultivated and permitted to grow in a heart that is tender towards Him because it is overflowing with gratitude?

Colossians 2:6-7 says to be rooted and built up in Jesus, established in the faith, abounding in thanksgiving. It is so important to be abounding in thanksgiving because God wants hearts that are rooted in Him, prepared for the seed of His Word to be planted so the fruit of His Spirit can grow. Thankfulness is one of the major components in keeping the ground of our hearts cultivated. A thankful heart will produce the good fruit that the Lord desires to come forth from our lives.

Paul encourages the church of Colosse to live pleasing to the Lord and lists several ways in how to do so, two of them being to bear fruit in every good work and to give thanks to our Father (Colossians 1:10-12). Giving thanks and bearing good fruit go hand in hand as we live with the purpose of pleasing God.

As you spend this Thanksgiving Day thanking the Lord for all that He has done in your life and for who He is, reflect on all of these benefits that come from a heart devoted to thankfulness. Let these Scriptures ring in your ears as you continue to live your life saturated in thanksgiving and discover all the Benefits of a Thankful Heart:

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Colossians 3:15-17
