The Light Shines in the DarknessSample
Do you walk in the light?
“The light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.” (John 3:19)
At the end of his conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus talks about light and darkness. John has already used these words in his introduction, where he said: “The light shines in the darkness…” (John 1:5). This true light is Jesus. He says about Himself: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). However, in today’s verse He also says that many people don’t like this light. They don’t want it to show all the bad things they have done, and therefore they prefer to remain in their darkness. Jesus warns us that these people are condemned, because they reject the only way of salvation.
The light is rejected by many people, but it can’t be overcome by their darkness or by Satan’s opposition. Jesus’ light is stronger and will shine forever. Satan tries to keep us in darkness, but Jesus has the power to deliver us from his dominion and to bring us into His own kingdom (Colossians 1:13).
It is not easy – because of pride! - to admit our sins before God. But it’s far better to bring everything to light and ask for forgiveness, than to remain in darkness.
Do you walk in spiritual darkness or in the life of light?

About this Plan
The apostle John wrote a book about Jesus, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). This reading plan goes through many Scripture verses, and the first chapters of John’s gospel, to discover who Jesus is.
