A Devotional Guide to Pray With Gratitude During the Thanksgiving SeasonSample
THANK YOU, GOD, FOR CREATING THE SKY!
• On the second day, the firmaments (sky, heaven) were created.
"And God said, 'Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.' So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day." Genesis 1:6-8 NIV
The skies intrigue me. I have walked many a morning and marveled at the tapestry above me. From sunrise to sunset, I stand in awe at the creation of the sky.
"A phenomenon known as 'scattering' is the beautiful colors that appear. (pinks, orange, yellows, and reds) Molecules and small particles in the atmosphere change the direction of light rays, causing them to scatter. Scattering affects the color of light coming from the sky, but the details are determined by the wave, length of the light, and the size of the particle. Even scientists refer to it as a phenomenon." (Information from Science Daily)
God made the particles and the molecules that make all the colors change from day to day. Some days the sky is just a pristine blue with not a cloud in the sky. Some days fluffy white clouds adorn the robin egg blue skies. Now, I am not a fan of flying, but one thing I can tell you that helps me when I fly is to sit in the window seat and marvel at what is out that window. Once the airplane ascends above the clouds, many times it is a sea of cotton with a perfect blue on the entire heavens above!
“He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind.” Psalm 104:3b NIV
Today, take time in your prayers to thank God:
• for creating the skies.
• for creating the various colors and shapes that give the sky a picture around us each day.
• for the clouds and the water that come from the heavens to replenish the earth.
Good morning, Lord!
This morning I just want to pause and praise You for the creation of the skies, the heavens above. They are full of majesty and creativity, and I know that You created them not only for our eyes to behold Your glory, but for purpose. The elements come from Your skies in the form of rain, snow, wind, sleet, hail, lightning, and thunder; some days a light mist and fog cover the earth. In each element is purpose. Oh, God, only You could be so powerful to create such beauty! Thank You for riding the clouds and being in the wind and showing Your glory to us each day of life! In Jesus' Name, Amen.
