A Life in ChristSample
LIFE IS JUST A JOURNEY
Mark 14:38
"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak". (Mark 14:38)
A long time ago, there was an emperor who told one of his horsemen that he would give the horseman any areas he could explore. Immediately the horseman jumped onto his horse's back and sped off as fast as possible to explore the widest possible areas. He rode on and on, whipping his horse to run as fast as he could. He didn’t stop when he was hungry and tired because he wanted to rule over the widest possible areas. Finally, he came to a place after exploring quite large areas where he became so exhausted that he almost died. Then he said to himself, "Why did I push myself so hard to rule over such large areas? Now I'm dying, and I only need a small place to bury myself."
This story is similar to our life journey. Because of our fleshly desires, we often fall into temptations that make us push ourselves so hard each day to seek money, power, and self-confidence. We neglect our health, time with family, opportunities to admire the beauty around us, the things we want to do, as well as our spiritual life and ministry.
One day when we look back, we will realize that we don’t need that much, but at that time, we can't turn back time for all the things we have not done. Therefore, take a moment to think about what we will do if we die tomorrow. Isn't it both fun and scary knowing when we are going to die? Nobody knows the time. Therefore, let us learn to watch and pray at all times. Learn to respect and enjoy life, and above all, let’s know that the most important thing in our lives is glorifying the Lord with our lives.
Reflection:
1. Have you set aside special time for a personal prayer today?
2. Have you ever fallen into the temptation of not making time to connect with God in prayer? What do you do when you realize that you have fallen into that temptation?
Application:
Watch and pray at all times – lest you fall into temptation!
