Advent in Israel: The Places of Israel & the Story of JesusSample
Day 12 - Sea of Galilee
The Sea of Galilee was unpredictable—one minute calm and the next a raging storm. Jesus’s disciples would have known this since several of them were fishermen from the region. But we still find them one night out on a boat in the midst of a huge storm.
The waves tossed them about, and they feared for their lives, all while Jesus slept in the boat. The disciples finally despaired and woke up Jesus. He rebuked them because they had so little faith.
He then did something extraordinary. He spoke to the sea. He commanded that it be still. And it was! Jesus had shown His authority over disease, demons, and the hearts of men, and now over nature itself. The disciples marveled because “even the winds and the waves obeyed him.”
Jesus’s power extends to all areas of not only our spiritual lives but also to nature itself. How then should we look at the events surrounding us daily?

About this Plan
As we enter the Christmas season, we are all eager to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the point in history where God descended into humanity to bring life to a broken world. Each day leading up to Christmas, we will provide an overview of the biblical significance of a location in Israel, along with a devotional prompt that will connect that location with the life of Jesus in Scripture.
