Finding Jesus Through the Fog of Separation or DivorceSample

Finding Jesus Through the Fog of Separation or Divorce

DAY 1 OF 4

He sees and loves us.

The day my marriage ended, I felt something died.  How could this be happening to me? My world was being turned upside down.  Where was God? Did He see me?  Could God relate to my pain and loss?

I thought my marriage was going to be a  “happily ever after.” Realizing it was over was like death. The divorce buried my dreams. I had feelings of failure, disappointment, anger, and shame. Many mental health professionals compare grieving during a divorce to grieving the death of someone we love. Divorce is a lonely process, but are we alone? Does God see us in our divorce? Can God relate to us and what we are going through?

Dear sister, the Bible assures us that God sees you and knows your pain. God, as Jesus, has suffered loss, disappointment, rejection, abandonment, ridicule, and sorrow. God knows your pain because He experienced it himself as a human.

Jesus experienced deep sorrow, disappointment, and abandonment by his closest friends on the night before his crucifixion.

Jesus was publicly shamed, blasphemed, scoffed, and mocked during his crucifixion.

Jesus was betrayed by Judas, and one of his closest disciples and friends,  Peter, denied knowing Jesus.

And finally,  Jesus chose to take the punishment for sins he didn’t commit and die a brutal death on a cross.

If anyone knows the depth of human pain, rejection, suffering, and loss, Jesus does.

Jesus allowed himself to experience the punishment for our sins because He loves us with a self-sacrificial love.

And it is because of this love and sacrifice, that we can be confident that He sees us. He forgives our sins, restores us to the Father, leaves us the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Our triune God is with us understanding all our circumstances and sorrows. God is with us when we grieve.

Reflect

I can feel comforted that Jesus understands my pain and feeling of isolation and sees me and loves me in this moment of loss.
