Dive Deeper Into the Book of JonahSample

From the opening verses of the book of Jonah, we know the protagonist is no hero. Jonah’s story begins with a big blunder. He disobeys God’s command to go to Nineveh and warn them of God’s impending judgment. After Jonah faces the consequences of his poor decision and repents, God not only shows him mercy but also recommissions him to Nineveh. He does not fire Jonah or give up on Him. He does not bench or demote Jonah. 

Most of us can relate to Jonah. We too can recall instances when we failed to obey God, or when we deliberately chose to rebel against God. Yet, God continues to give us more opportunities to be instruments for Him, like He did with Jonah.

When God calls us to do something for Him, He is aware that His chosen ones are weak mortals, not superheroes. We mess up or ignore God’s call. But God does not hold our sins against us. When we repent, He gives us second chances. He opens new doors. Our mistakes and missteps, no matter how great, cannot keep God from using us for His glory. 

The Ninevites were saved because the prophet obeyed God. 

Let’s obey God and trust that He will equip us to do what He calls us to do.
