The Trap// Plans
“I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you - plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
This beautiful scripture reminds us that God indeed has a plan for our lives. So why do we tend to take matters into our own hands, as if we have better foresight, knowledge, and strategy than God? The moment we decide to take our plans out of God’s hands is the moment we decide to take God out of our plans. When we resist the call to submit our plans to God, we fall into the trap of depending on our own insight and strength to determine the direction of our lives.
The Truth
Truth #1: God’s Plan = God’s Provision
God is a Master Planner. He has already detailed every part of our lives and has specific plans and provisions to guide us along each part of the journey. Unfortunately, many of us disregard His plans for our own. This approach leaves us exhausted from working to sustain our plans apart from God. Surrendering to God and following His lead means we submit our plans to His perfect favor, resources, and timing.
Truth #2: Our benchmarks will bury us.
The belief that we need to accomplish specific life goals within a specific timeline is dangerous and prideful. There’s nothing wrong with having hopes and dreams (that are submitted to God), but we must be more devoted to His vision for our lives than our own.
Truth #3: Waiting is worth it.
Many of us circle back with God after we make life-changing decisions. We must be quick to consult God at the onset of every move rather than questioning him after the fallout of our decisions.
Application:
Like a quarterback in football, God is the best positioned player on the field. He has the clearest vision and the best skillset to set us up to win in life. However, if we don’t give God the ball, we won’t ever be in a position to score.
Study the next few scriptures on God’s sovereignty and remember that he is committed to leading you to people and places that are for your good and His glory.
Consider: In what areas of your life do you need to throw God the ball?
