Rebuilding ResilienceSample
HEALING MAKES YOU STRONGER
Trauma and suffering have a huge impact on your mind, heart, and faith. But through the healing process, you can emerge stronger than before. How is this possible? What does the Bible have to say about this?
In this study, you will reflect on:
- Finding comfort in God’s Word
- A process of rebuilding and strengthening faith
- Rebuilding relationships
Begin by listening to Jen’s story.
HEALING IS A PROCESS
We have learned several parts of that process—remembering God’s love, expressing our pain through words and art, grieving, lamenting, bringing our pain to the cross, and forgiving those who have harmed us.
When our wounds are deep, we may need to use the things we have learned over and over and allow time for God to continue healing our hearts. These are also things we can do when we face new difficulties in our lives.
As we practice these things, we will be able to rebuild our lives and be better able to face suffering in the future. This is called resilience. We will have good days and bad days—it is all part of the journey.
And as we learned, we can talk to God at every step.
Reflect & Respond
Optional Tip: Journaling your responses to the scripture and follow up questions can help you process what you're learning and see your progress towards healing over time.
Is there a time in your life when you’ve grown stronger because of a trial you’ve faced? Describe it. What did you learn from that experience?
Read the following verses and reflect on where we find our strength.
Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 31:6, Exodus 15:2, Psalm 73:23-26
About this Plan
God can comfort you, strengthen you, and restore you to the person he made you to be. In this study you will explore God's Word and reflect on: finding comfort in God’s Word, rebuilding and strengthening faith, and relationships. This study is part 7 of the Never Alone: Trauma Healing series. While written for the military community, the themes apply to anyone who has experienced trauma and wants to heal.
