Jesus…at Home in Your HeartSample
With a freshly cleaned heart, you are ready to fully receive a love like no other – because God IS love! Maybe we will finally understand the love of God when we begin to act like God acts and love like God loves.
And perhaps the moment that we truly know the love of God in its fullness and power is when we are able to apply the love of God to our relationships with others. When we overlook the disappointing behavior of others and rise above the frustrations, the mess, and the immaturity and love them, our hearts are beating in sync with the Father’s love. Now, the Father doesn’t want you to be abused physically or emotionally. Loving like God loves doesn’t mean that we are called to sacrifice our sanity; however, He always calls us to sacrifice our selfishness.
At the worst moment of your life, God was totally, passionately, and undeniably head over heels in love with you. Your actions, failures, and sin nature don’t change Him or His love because His love is not based upon performance, rather it is based intrinsically upon who He is.
Karl Barth was one of the most esteemed thinkers of the 20th century, and many religious leaders believe that he was the greatest theologian since the apostle Paul. Once, a young seminary student asked Barth if he could sum up what was most important about his life’s work and theology in just a few words. The audience gasped at the impertinent question. Barth thought for a moment, smiled and said, “Yes, in the words of a song my mother used to sing to me, ‘Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.’” In Barth’s esteemed opinion, the love of Jesus was more important than millions of words of theology. I am sure that Barth would agree: Jesus loves you, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it!
Heart Inspection:
Is there a relationship that you need to leave because it is emotionally or physically abusive?
When have you felt most loved by God?
When do you most need God’s love?
Heartfelt Prayer:
Jesus, help me to love people who disagree with me and people who are at their worst. Give me wisdom in all of my relationships. Thank You, Father God. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
