Act on God’s Word.
It’s not enough to know what the Word of God says. We must also internalize it and act in faith. The mere knowledge of what He says is not enough. We must follow His plan and live by His Word.
Jesus talks of this very same concept in Matthew 7:24-27 when he discusses the concept of following God’s Word. He said that whoever follows the Word of God is like a wise man who builds his house on the rock. When it begins to storm, this man’s home will remain because it was founded on a rock. Those who hear the Word of God and do not follow it are like a foolish man who builds his house on sand and will soon have his home swept away. The rain isn’t the issue; it’s the foundation upon which these houses were built.
Think about it.
Did you notice the same rain, the same floods, and the same winds come to both houses in this situation?
Just because you are a Christian does not mean you won’t have storms. There will be storms that beat against your life, but as you read God’s Word each day and apply the truths revealed to you, you will become like the wise man with the house on the rock. When adversity comes, you will be able to stand because you have built your house on an immovable foundation, the Word of God.
The explanation Jesus gives for following and obeying the Word of God is an excellent example of the benefits of doing so.
Those who read the Word of God and know it by heart but do not actively follow it are building foundations made of sand.
Those who adhere to His Words will find their houses still standing even during a raging storm.
