Through the Bible: Nahum

DAY 3 OF 3

Judgment of God

Behold, I am against you,” declares the Lord of hosts, “and will lift up your skirts over your face; and I will make nations look at your nakedness and kingdoms at your shame. I will throw filth at you and treat you with contempt and make you a spectacle. Nahum 3:5-6(ESV)

Nineveh was a city of bloodshed, where Jonah once preached repentance to the Assyrians who repented for a short time. But they went back to their bullish, idolatry, and evil ways that Nahum, almost 150 years later, prophesied Nineveh’s destruction and God’s judgment over the Assyrian empire. This warning brought comfort to the remnant of Judah, knowing God is just, and His vengeance will come.

What have I learned? Not to be discouraged with injustice and evilness in this world but keep trusting in God who works in the darkest of times and will bring justice and hope to this world in His timing.

Prayer

Thank You, Father God, for heightening my faith and hope in You. I want to focus on Your truth and know that You are the avenger for vengeance is Yours. Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Nahum

During the evil reign of King Manasseh, God commissioned Nahum to prophesy the impending downfall of Assyria in 612 BC, an invincible empire subjugating nations in Mesopotamia and a dreadful oppressor to Israel for many centuries. Overwhelmed by darkness from both inside and out, the people of God would find comfort from Nahum that God will never leave the guilty unpunished and He is the refuge in times of trouble.
