Glorifying Him Through And In Our Self-CareSample
Self-care is often thought to be selfish. As a mental health therapist who practices her own daily self-care with tenacity and diligence, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard the following from my clients, or even my friends and family: Must be nice to have time to take care of yourself!
What is self-care?
Who is going to take care of everything else if I am taking care of myself?
Well, my friends, research shows over and over that if you don’t take care of yourself, eventually there will be no one to take care of everyone else. Your body will give out. Your heart will harden. And your spirit will snuff out.
We are not endless supplies of time, energy, faith and love. We cannot give from an empty cup. God did not make us robots to begin with, and Jesus Himself gave us a holy example of practiced self-care.
Over the next five days, I invite you to open your hearts and minds to the idea of taking care of yourself, first and foremost. I challenge you to take the resources I will share and implement at least one daily for the next two weeks. Seek out His example in His word and see, for once, that taking care of yourself is the least selfish act you can do. Rather, self-care is how you not only help yourself but is also how you glorify Him every day.
