Jonah 3 Following Jesus When You’d Rather Run AwaySample

The Power of Words
Jonah delivers his very short message to the Ninevites with boldness and passion. This should tell us of the transformative power in the truth of God’s Word. His Word can pierce through to the division of joint and of marrow, of soul and spirit – it is sharper than any two-edged sword.
The truth of the gospel leads to transformation beyond our wildest imagination. Those few words Jonah preached led the Ninevites to fast. The Ninevites believed God, and they immediately acted on it.
What happens next?
The message makes it to the king.
When your words are God’s words, there is no limit to how far those words will go. Jonah's word, the Word of God, reaches the king of Nineveh. The people changed. The place changes. This is the power of words.
Have you ever thought of how much power there is in the things that you say? Do your words reflect God’s Word? Do you know the Word of God enough to speak truth into your and other people’s situations?
