Pray & Connect: Praying the Psalms for Your ChildrenSample
Scripture: Read Psalm 16 for the full context of this passage.
“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Psalm 16:8
When my son was a little guy, he used to be afraid of so many things. One day, he did not want to go to school. I tried many things to convince him but then I remembered the verse we had memorized to help him through his nighttime fears.
I grabbed a marker and wrote Joshua 1:9 on one hand–You are strong and courageous. And on his other hand, I wrote–God is with you wherever you go. What I was doing was helping him to fix his eyes on Jesus.
The Psalmist is doing the same thing. He says he reflects on what he knows about the Lord and allows that to be his focus and comfort. When your children are struggling with fear or worry remind them to fix their eyes on Jesus by remembering a verse or song. They can fill their minds with His truth instead of their fears.
Let's pray they will focus on His truth, His love, and His word and give them the strength to stand against anything they may face.
Pray: Lord, May {your child's name} find strength and courage in You and remember to set You before him/her. You are our right hand and we will not be shaken. Amen.
Connect: Ask your child, “What are 3 things you’re concerned or worried about?” Then share one thing that concerned you when you were their age. Remind them of the truth in Psalms 16.
