Arrest Toxic Thinking
There is a peculiar plant slowly taking over Russia.
With leaves the size of end tables, a plant by the name of hogweed oozes a toxic sap that can cause third-degree burns and even blindness! According to The New York Times, officials now refer to overgrown areas as "contaminated."
The biggest problem is the seed count: up to 100,000 per plant. Simply put, this toxic plant is taking ground and not giving it back.
Our minds can sometimes resemble those Russian fields getting overrun by hogweed. If the problem isn't immediately challenged, it spreads uncontrollably.
For better or worse, our perceptions determine how we see the world. If we aren't careful, our perceptions can become distorted. I call this distortion “toxic thinking.” Jesus addressed toxic thinking in Romans 12:2 by telling us, “...do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
As Paul the Apostle wrote in today's guiding verse, our minds can be transformed by conforming to God's Word instead of the world around us. We can replace negative thoughts and unhealthy emotional habits with accurate, healthy, biblical ones.
It starts by challenging our perceptions and asking, "Is this true?" And afterward, ask God to help you see every situation the way He does. This will help you stop toxic thinking from taking root in your mind.
As you engage with God’s word:
● What are the patterns of toxic thinking in my life?
● What is God saying to me?
● What do I need to do about it?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
