DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4:

Children often wake up their parents in the middle of the night. Sometimes they are thirsty and need a drink of water. Other times they might have a bad dream and seek comfort and reassurance from their parents. Then there are times when they don’t feel well and come to their parents for help. In all these circumstances, moms and dads gladly attend to their children.

Just like children who seek their parents in the middle of the night, we too have access to our Father in heaven. He is always available to us. And He gladly attends to all our cares.

We all have times in our life when we worry about our needs. We may worry about having enough to pay a bill that is due at the end of the month. We may hear rumors that job cuts are on the horizon and we fear losing our job. We may worry about our health or that of a loved one. We may fear not knowing enough or doing enough or being enough.

The Bible shows and teaches us that we can come to our Father in heaven and seek His help. We can bring to Him all our needs and cares. We can ask Him to provide our daily bread. We can ask for help in the face of danger. We can pray for healing when we are sick. We can ask for wisdom when we simply don’t know what to do. We can cry out to Him in prayer, and He hears us. Even more, He knows all our needs and cares before we do!

Jesus taught us that because God is our Father, we can trust Him to meet our every need. In Matthew 6, He instructed us to look at how God provides for the birds of the air or the wildflowers in the fields. He said that if God provides for His creation (the birds and wildflowers), how much more so will He provide for His children? The Apostle Paul made a similar argument in Romans 8. He asked if God went to so far as to sacrifice His Son on the cross for us, how could we think He wouldn’t meet us in our troubles today?

God is your Father. You are His child. He hears you when you cry out to Him in prayer. Like a child, seek your Father today and tell Him your needs.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Have you ever had a need and not cried out to God about it? Why?
  2. Why do you think Jesus tells us not to worry about our daily needs?
  3. What are some ways God has met your needs in the past? Spend time in prayer thanking him for his generous provision of grace in your life.
