Year of the Bible: Part Two of Twelve Sample
God Qualifies the Called.
Who says a thing is often more important than what is said. In this case, Moses is called by God to liberate His people from slavery in the land of Egypt. One can imagine the dread that flooded Moses' heart when he heard the words, "Come, I will send you to Pharaoh..."
Moses' response tells us about his self-confidence, at level zero and not climbing. God's response to Moses affirmed the call to go, to liberate His people. To summarize David Pawson on this subject, Moses gave God five excuses for why he was not the man God needed. Five times God answered each of Moses' reasons. Moses said, "I am insignificant, ignorant, and have nothing to say, I cannot convince the people about You, I cannot speak, and I am irrelevant, send someone else!"
God's responded to each excuse in turn. He said, "I am with you, and I am important. I will tell you what to say and convince the people with powerful signs. I will provide your brother Aaron as a helper for you in speaking and leading."
Question: God is always inviting you into deeper waters. Are you quick to make excuses to disqualify yourself from needing to obey? What do you think about God's ability to equip you for each assignment?
Prayer Focus: God is faithful to equip you. Tell God your concerns, but also take a moment to listen to what He wants to tell you in response to them.
