Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "A Place of Power"Sample

Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "A Place of Power"

DAY 29 OF 31

I remember a funny experience from many years back. My husband was still actively ministering in Sunday school. One day, he took me to a place relatively far away from where we lived to print medals to reward his Sunday school kids who could memorize a Bible verse. After much effort and enduring all that heat, finally, 20 medals were ready for Sunday.

Out of curiosity, I joined the class to see the whole process. The first kid stepped to the front of the class and recited the memory verse, “1 Thessalonians 5:17, pray continually!” My husband clapped his hands and rewarded him with a medal. Twenty kids later, I heard the same verse from each of them - Pray Continually!

When the class was over, I complained to my husband for taking me on such an “exhausting” trip to reward the kids for reciting such a short verse. I was expecting at least a longer verse. My husband answered, “Yes, the verse might be short, but it’s an important verse to remember even as they become adults. Praying is the simplest yet the most difficult thing to do for us believers.”

In financial distress? Pray continually!

Critical illness? Pray continually!

Family problems? Pray continually!

Trouble in class? Pray continually!

Blessed abundantly? Pray continually!

Easy? NO! This is where our faith is put to the test. We are being processed, slowly but surely, to surrender and to believe that the answers to our prayers will come in His perfect time. Praying can be seen as boring. But, there is power in prayer. Prayer changes things - no matter how hard and difficult.

Devotion for Parents
As parents, how do you involve your children in praying together? What struggles do you have, especially with teenagers?

Praying together during devotion time might be hard to do. Start doing it nevertheless! Don’t wait for the right time. The time is now. You can start by praying alone or with your spouse. You will witness wonderful transformations happen through your prayers.

Devotion for Kids
1. How do you start the habit of praying?
2. What struggles do you have when you start the habit of praying? Laziness? Having no time to pray? Do you forget? Etc.

Family Devotion Time
If you are reading today’s devotion together, you are on the right track, doing the right thing!

Be encouraged no matter what. Do it every day in whatever condition. Believe that God is doing something big in your family.
