Why Easter?! (Youth Edition)

DAY 5 OF 5

What Do I Need To Do?

Before we come to the end of this devotional there is one important thing that we need to cover before we wrap up. And that’s the question ‘What do I need to do?’

You see, the Easter story isn’t just a nice story that we read about once a year; it’s actually a story that we are invited into! We have a part to play.

The Bible makes it clear that we have to do something very specific in order to step into this new creation life of freedom that Jesus promises us. We have toacceptJesus’ death and resurrection.

It almost seems too simple, doesn’t it? While Jesus gave his entire life on the cross, we just need to accept what he did for us? But Jesus’ offer of a new life in him is a gift and, like any gift, there is always someone who gives the gift and someone who receives it. And our role is simply to accept and receive God’s gift of new life.

Accepting the gift that Jesus offers us is an act of faith, through which we move from saying that we are happy doing life without God to saying that we want to live our lives as followers of Jesus.

In the Easter story you are invited to put your faith in Jesus and accept what he has done for you. It may sound really simple, but this decision to accept what Jesus did for you will allow you to enter into a life of walking with God every step of the way.

If you are considering making a decision to accept Jesus into your life, why not do so this Easter? We have included a very simple prayer which you can say in your head or out loud, in order to start your relationship with Jesus:

Lord Jesus Christ,

I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life. Please forgive me. I now turn from everything which I know is wrong.

Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free.

Thank you that you offer me forgiveness and the gift of your Spirit. I now receive that gift.

Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.

Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.

We’d love to hear from you if you have prayed that prayer today! Do reach to your youth pastor to let them know and please also reach out to us @alphayth so we can keep in touch!
