What Is Sin?

DAY 2 OF 12

“… Sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned…” (Romans 5:12)

All humans have been contaminated by Adam’s and Eve’s sin.

Adam and Eve were the first humans who fell into sin, but they were not the only ones. All of their descendants have inherited their sinful hearts, which means that all humans are sinful from birth. Sin is like a contagious disease that has infected all of humanity.

This is a saddening truth, and maybe you prefer not to talk about sin too much. But there is a good reason why the Bible repeatedly stresses that “there is none who does good, not even one”. This is not to grind you down, but to make you aware of the seriousness of your condition. Only if you realize that you are a sinner and thus earn God’s wrath, you will understand that you need salvation. And that’s exactly what God wants to offer you! He has designed a plan to save people from sin and its consequences: God the Son has become human to bear the judgment on sin in our place. Just as sin entered the world by one man, salvation has come through one man, Jesus Christ.

Have you accepted Jesus’ offer of forgiveness?

About this Plan

What Is Sin?

“Sin” is a key concept in the Bible. Sin is rebellion against God, be it in words, deeds, or desires. It destroys the relationship between God and humans and also has disastrous consequences for people’s relationship with each other and with their natural environment. This reading plan covers some key Bible verses about sin’s origins, its essence, its consequences, and God’s solution for the problem of human sin.
