God’s perfect justice
We do not have to experience much in life to come to the conclusion that “life isn’t fair!” Though Solomon points out how good life can be when it is centered around a genuine relationship with God (3:12-15), we must remember that we live in a fallen world (Genesis 3), and so we see many unsettling things happening around us. Certainly, injustice would rank high among the most unsettling aspects of our lives.
Solomon laments the common sight of injustice that confronts us in so many venues. But the encouraging news is that the Creator God of the universe is a just God, and He will not let any wrongs or injustices slip through the cracks. Equally encouraging is the reality that God’s dispensation of justice is perfect. When God judges, the guilty will receive the precise penalty they deserve. There will be no bribes and no manipulative attorneys to pervert justice.
Now, God’s judgment should be a dreaded thing for those who will experience His just condemnation. However, for the person in Christ, there is no condemnation awaiting (Romans 8:1). But the Christian should find the reality of perfect justice from God to be a reassuring and practical power in their life. It frees us from the anxiety caused by the unfairness of life and the evil deeds of others. We do not need to avenge the wrongs perpetrated against us. We do not need to respond to evil with evil on our part or churn with internal angst.
God will do a better job of administering justice than we could ever hope to do. His judgments take into account all the variables that lie beyond our capacity to evaluate, such as the intentions of the heart and hidden motives. So, this means that we can let go of resentment and anger that resides in our hearts. We can let go of grudges.
Indeed, life isn’t fair in the present age. But justice is going to triumph in the end! Let’s allow our knowledge of God’s justice to move us closer to Him in thought, word, and deed.

Ecclesiastes reads as though it were written for our day because it touches the very things that currently occupy our hearts. It is an encouraging book, one that demonstrates how life is to be enjoyed, both in routine undertakings, as well as in difficult circumstances. According to its author, the key for the way each person responds to events in their life hinges on one’s relationship with God—or lack thereof.
