Making a StandSample
Standing Firm on the Rock
Jesus taught that anyone who hears His words and obeys them is like a wise builder who builds a house on a rock. When the storms come, the house will not collapse. But those who hear Jesus’ words and do not heed them are unwise and build on the sand.
In the movie Return of the King, from the Lord of the Rings series, Gandalf and Aragorn made their stand against Sauron and his kingdom of darkness. Though surrounded, in faith they persisted in distracting Sauron. Their actions allowed Frodo to get to Mount Doom, where he cast the ring into the fire and destroyed Sauron’s power. Gandalf and Aragorn made a courageous stand. Though surrounded, they won the victory. Though the ground around them collapsed, the ground they were standing on remained firm.
J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of the Lord of the Rings books, was a Christian. The messages of Christianity in the movie are subtle. Whatever your opinion is of Tolkien’s works, the truth is that when you make your stand for God, He will give you the victory. The ground around you will collapse, but you will not collapse.
The forces of darkness are raging in our world. There is a flood of evil and impurity. The waves of wickedness are reaching a crescendo, increasing to even higher heights. The world wants to intimidate you to never make your stand for God. The world wants to cancel any stand for Jesus Christ. In many ways, the devil is trying to bully and threaten God’s people.
Jesus faced murderous forces. In fact, when He went home to Nazareth, He stood up in the synagogue and proclaimed that He was anointed to heal the brokenhearted and to set the captives free. Yet after His discourse, the people were furious. They got up to drive Him out of town. They took Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built in order to throw Him off the cliff. But He walked right through the crowd and went on His way.
God’s Word is true. He promises that no weapon forged against you will prevail and that you will refute every tongue that accuses you. When you make your stand on the Word of God, God will use you to change the world.

About this Plan
In the Bible, God repeatedly calls His servants to stand. Gideon, David, Elisha, Hezekiah and many others trusted in God and stood on the truth of His Word. Their example can give you the inspiration to obey God’s call to remain firm in your faith and make your stand for Him.
