The Echoes of Prayer
Daniel and the Lions’ Den is one of the most powerful stories in the Bible that demonstrates God’s faithfulness through prayer. For those who know this story, you are probably picturing Daniel as a young and ruggedly handsome man. This is the picture in most of our minds because that was true of Daniel in his earlier stories. However, this story most likely comes much later in Daniel’s life.
When Daniel found himself in the lion’s den, he was likely at least 80 years old. That's a big difference from young and ruggedly handsome. This Daniel has wrinkles and scars that tell the story of his faithfulness to God in each and every circumstance.
At this time, Daniel has spent decades praying three times a day to God in a country that was not his own. He has spent years praying three times a day for peace in a culture that was antagonistic to his way of life. He has spent years praying three times a day to the God his neighbors despised. Clearly, Daniel did not have an easy life, yet relied on prayer throughout.
When Daniel prayed, and God rescued him from the lions’ den, he had already been accustomed to praying to God in difficult situations regardless of how God answered his prayers. God rescuing Daniel from the lions is a story that has echoed throughout history, an echo set in motion by Daniel’s consistent willingness to always get his power from God through prayer. What will your echo be?
Prayer Prompts:
- Ask God to give you the dedication of Daniel as you come to Him in prayer no matter your situation.
- Acknowledge that you are helpless without His intervention and that you trust Him to be working even when you can’t see things happening.
- Confess those times when you find it difficult to pray.
- Like Daniel, commit to demonstrating faithfulness as you regularly pray for things like your family, job, finances, church, nation, etc.
- Finish by telling God what you hope the echo of your faithful prayer life will be.

About this Plan
If we’re honest, some things we read in the Bible leave us shaking our heads. Is it really even possible to sincerely love people who are different from us? Can we really be content with what we have? How about prayer? Does God really hear us? During this study, we’re going to talk about how things that can seem so impossible to us are completely possible with God. Really!
