Generosity: Offering Hope in Dark Times

DAY 3 OF 7

You are called to give.

My great-grandparents immigrated to Canada in 1927 from somewhere near the Ukraine-Polish border. I’d like to share a quick, funny story, as you and I are getting to know each other!

My great-grandfather’s name was Abraham Faschbuk. When he arrived in Canada, the immigration officer in Halifax, Nova Scotia, told him, “You can’t come into Canada with a name like that.” So, he changed it to “Fishbook,” and the rest is history!

Grant Fishbook is not a very Ukrainian name, but Ukraine holds a special place in my heart. Throughout the years, I have been able to return to Ukraine. Some of the most important trips for me were to the orphanage we’ve been involved with over the years. Having received the gift of being a father to two kids, to know there are children in the world who don’t know the unconditional love of a parent breaks my heart.

Is there a need you see around you that pulls at your heart? A call to action that only you can fill with your treasure, talents, or time?

Psalm 24:1 tells us this: “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to Him.” (NLT)

This means that because God created you, He has a rightful claim to your life. Your existence, treasures, talents, and time all belong to Him because He instilled them in you from the beginning! You have because He gave. When we give freely of our time, treasures, and talents, we are thanking God for creating us.

God gave ALL, and we’re called to lay down our resources because ALL belongs to Him. What gift have you received from God that you can use to bless someone else?

You’re a miracle!
