A Curious Faith By Lore Ferguson WilbertSample
Where are you going?
Genesis 16:8
The angel of the Lord asks, “Where are you going?” because sometimes it helps us to name out loud the plan—or lack of a plan—we have. It helps us to say, “I honestly have no idea what’s next, and I’m scared to death. Am I going to survive this?”
God is asking us all the time, in all our springs and deserts, in our broken homes and broken churches, in our fears and anxieties and angers and doubts and concerns about the future: Where are you going? Where is this taking you? What are these things you believe deeply and have a litany of evidence for? It’s not lying to God to tell him the truth about how broken your life seems to be. Just say it. Right out loud.
It’s not a finishing place. It’s just the answer to a question. It doesn’t promise wholeness or healing or even relief from the pains you’ve experienced or are experiencing. It’s just the willingness to say what’s true about where you’re running instead of pretending to be okay with the brokenness you’re running from.
Where is your path taking you?
