 Jesus - God Became Man

DAY 3 OF 4

Jesus Is Compassionate

In the midst of celebrations in Jerusalem, Jesus chose to go to the pool of Bethesda. Bethesda was the place where the sick and suffering came to find hope and healing. Here He finds a man who has been there for 38 years. The man seemed hopeless, wasted, and lonely. Jesus was the only hope for this man. Are we feeling hopeless, wasted, and lonely? Jesus today assures us that He is there for us.

Not only did Jesus heal him, but He later saw him in the temple and asked the man to sin no more. It’s like Jesus followed up on him and made sure he was healed not only physically but spiritually also.

In our life we need to see who God wants us to bless. Jesus could have shown compassion to all at the pool of Bethesda, but He healed only one man. In the same way we will not be able to show compassion on everybody the way we want. Showing compassion in today’s world would involve taking time to spend with the person, helping financially or maybe just praying for them. Practically we cannot help everybody, but God would burden us to help specific people.

If I was at the pool that day, I would be upset with Jesus that He is partial. I would be jealous of the man who was healed and may have been angry with both Jesus and the man like the Pharisees. We need to realize that when we show compassion on the people, God wants us to know there will be others who are upset, jealous, and maybe even angry. This should not discourage us from being compassionate to the one God wants us to be compassionate about.

We can show compassion to all those we know who have a need by praying for them. Some of the ways to pray for people going through difficult times would be:

• That God would give them grace to go through the challenging time
• For God’s will to be done and not what we wish
• That family relationships would be strengthened and not broken
• For physical strength
• For finances
• That the family would have peace and comfort
• That the plans of the evil would be nullified

In our life’s journey we need to be able to show compassion even when we are celebrating.

About this Plan

 Jesus - God Became Man

This study helps us to look at Jesus, the son of God, who became man, and what it means to us as a child of God. It is aimed at helping us see Jesus from the perspective of how we can learn lessons for our everyday life.
