The Genealogy of JesusSample

The Genealogy of Jesus

DAY 1 OF 21

Julie Andrews crooned it best in the Sound of Music: "Let's start at the very beginning. A very good place to start." As it was for the Von Trapps, so it is for us. In looking at the lineage of Christ, we should start at the very beginning of time on earth: Genesis.

Adam was created. Note the language used (Gen. 1:26 ESV) "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image…" This affirms the triune nature of God (the Father), Christ (the Son), and the Holy Spirit. Don't miss the miracle that Adam and Christ co-existed in Genesis. Yet, from this auspicious beginning, we will spend 21 days tracing forward through men and women from whom Christ, in the physical form of a baby, will descend almost 4000 years later. (mic drop)

We'd be remiss to omit Eve from our list. After all, she's kind of important to the perpetuation of the lineage. God charged Adam and Eve in Gen. 1:28 to "be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it…". And so the greatest journey in all of history begins - the countdown towards our Messiah!

1. Did you know Jesus is present throughout all Scripture, from Genesis-Revelation? Look for ways to find Jesus when you study the Bible. He's there!

Prayer: God, you are the Beginning and the End. You know all, see all, and hold all things. Help me know you better and trust you more.

Day 2

About this Plan

The Genealogy of Jesus

We often trace our history to unlock knowledge about ourselves and gain wisdom to move forward. The divine nature of Jesus certainly adds a one-of-a-kind dynamic to understanding His genealogy. Still, there is wisdom, depth, and importance to be gained in learning about the men and women God ordained as part of the family of Jesus.
