Be Still: 15 More Days With God

DAY 7 OF 15

A PRESCRIPTION FOR WORRY

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; PHILIPPIANS 4:6

What keeps us from yielding to the greater purposes of God? How often do we get trapped in our finite minds, overwhelmed by the complexities and uncertainties of life? God must marvel at our feeble, worrisome concerns when we do not avail ourselves of heaven’s resources through Him.

You might wonder how we can stop our thoughts from trending toward fearful thinking. Worry is nothing more than wrongly-focused meditation, taking God out of the equation. So instead, meditate on the Word of God—let His Word be your focus! The enemy of our souls knows very well how we tend to act independently of God. That was Eve’s problem in the garden, remember? Satan wants us to indulge in focusing on our plans and agendas and get out of the lane God has planned for us. Anxieties are born this way.

What’s the prescription for worry? Pray about everything! Prayer is not informing God of what you want but seeking His mind in a matter. We take the problem we can’t handle and put it into the hands of the One Who is well-equipped to handle it—no matter what!

About this Plan

Be Still: 15 More Days With God

"Be still, and know that I am God;" (PSALM 46:10a). Many Christians are familiar with this verse, but do we really understand it? This exhortation applies when we are distracted by our successes, as when we are fearful and disquieted by some troublesome news. We must learn to quiet ourselves by opening God’s Word and gaining His perspective in both cases.
