God controls it all

Have you ever had a dream while you were sleeping that presented you with a situation you were forced to respond to but were powerless to do anything about? You could not move. You were paralyzed. Do you ever feel that way about the future? King David wrote: “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you” (Psalm 139:16-18).

Imagine standing on a beach trying to count the grains of sand. You would fall asleep before you even finished counting the grains clinging to the soles of your shoes! David could find joy in falling asleep thinking about God’s plans for him and waking up rejoicing in that truth. David knew that not only did God knit him together in his mother’s womb; God was weaving together the days of his life, just as he had planned.

Do you see what David sees? Behind everything that happens next year, you have a God who loves you enough to use everything for your good. There is not a day that will not go according to the plan God has for you. Every day ordained. No wonder David said, “How precious!”
