[Life of David] How to Wage Our Own BattlesSample
We Are Always in a Battle
In life, we go through different circumstances. Some are marked with good news, rejoicing, happiness, and celebration. We would like our lives to be that way all the time. But we also find moments that cause discomfort or bring changes that spin us around, or big problems. A battle is not necessarily a problem or a bad moment. A battle is something that comes against us, against our faith, or against our comfort. It could require making decisions or dealing with our emotions or with our personal relationships. It doesn’t matter if the circumstances are good or not.
We could say that we are going through battles all the time. You are in a battle right now; I am in a battle right now; we are always in a battle. Doesn’t it feel like one thing after another? Do you relate to this phrase, “there is always something”? You are either going into a battle, are in one, or are coming out of one.
It may be a battle with cancer, with grief, with loneliness, or with depression. It may be a battle in your marriage, in your school, at home, with your finances, in the office, with the culture, against our worldview. There are battles all over the place. There is always a challenge in our lives.
In the Bible, the only way to establish a kingdom was by having the victory in a series of battles. King David faced a lot of battles, but he always had a higher purpose when fighting, which was to glorify the Lord. In the same way, it doesn’t matter what kind of battle we are in; we must glorify the Lord with our choices, our thoughts, and our lives. If we keep our eyes on Him instead of on our circumstances, the Lord may give us a different way to go about the battle. His direction will surely grant us victory.
We should never forget that the reason we are fighting all these battles is not only to survive, or to have a good life, but to establish God’s kingdom in our midst.

About this Plan
Life is a constant battle. Right now, we are either in a battle, coming out of one, or about to get into one. King David had his share of battles, and God gave him the victory everywhere he went. What was his secret? Can we do the same? In this reading plan, Pastor Gregg Matte shows us through the life of King David the key principles to do just that.
