Advent - the Gift DevotionalSample

“The only gift Jesus wants”
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
A little girl was going to her first Christmas party. Her mother explained that this was the celebration of the birthday of Jesus, so she went with great expectation. But when she returned home, the mom could tell everything wasn’t quite right. She asked her daughter if she’d enjoyed the party. The little girl answered, “Yes, it was a good party. We had a good time, but Jesus didn’t come!”
Can you imagine a birthday party where the one whose birthday is being celebrated doesn’t show up? But we know Jesus did show up – 2,000 years ago! And each year we commemorate the birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ.
At a birthday party, you do two things: You receive gifts, and you give gifts. At Christmas, you receive and you give. If we are true believers, then we have to make sure we have received the gift of Christ Himself; and also, we have to make sure we have given to Christ the only gift He wants: ourselves.
