Wellbeing: An Invitation to a Flourishing LifeSample
God’s Plan for Your Finances
There is a gulf between how we live in the Western world compared to life in the time of Jesus and life in much of the developing world today. We plan our meals for days or weeks in advance to ensure we never run out of basic food items, but Jesus taught us to pray, “give us today our daily bread”, not tomorrow’s bread, not the following week’s bread, our daily bread.
The first step in God’s plan for our financial well-being is to trust Him every day for His provision. We naturally want to look ahead, to feel secure that we can guarantee our provisions. Still, in times past and worldwide today, families have said grace, acknowledging God’s provision, often not knowing where the next meal was coming from.
Jesus says, “Don’t worry about your life, whether you have enough to eat or drink… Your heavenly Father knows all your needs”. This is an incredible promise, but it has a condition, “seek first His kingdom”. Stepping into God’s plan for our finances means stepping into God’s plan for our life.
God’s plan for your finances involves relying on Him for all we need but using what He has blessed us to contribute to His mission. This means sharing His provision and leaving tomorrow’s provision in His capable hands.
Thought Point: How have you used God’s provision in your life to outwork His plan in this world? When was the last time you evaluated how much you give to aid and charitable organisations that participate in God’s mission? Is it time for an update?
Prayer Point: Ask God to help you trust His plan for your provision. Ask Him to guide you in how to share His provision with others.
