We Don't Care Where You've Been, We Care Where You're Going

DAY 5 OF 5

Many people in my church knew that I was not exactly champing at the bit when God called me into ministry. I had a lot of doubts - not about God, mind you, but about myself. I was really anxious that I would be a massive disappointment to everyone. I lacked the temperament, education, or pedigree to be a full-time minister. But God reached out to me in such a clear and powerful way that I knew I had to say yes.

But what a lot of people don’t know is that I still have those doubts today. They are not as overwhelming as they used to be back then, but it does not mean they don’t bother me. When I lose self-control, get stressed and frustrated about what’s going on in my life, or feel that the church is not where it should be, I still wonder if I should serve Jesus.

This psalm, though, should remind us that God knows. He knows us inside and out. God was there from the very beginning, even before we were born into this world. He knows our every thought and desire. And no matter how hard we try, how far we run away, his presence is always there with us.

So if God knows everything about us, including our darkest sins, shames, and insecurities, and yet he still calls us to follow him, why do we still doubt ourselves? God knows and wants us anyway. That’s all that matters.

God does not make mistakes. He did not misread your CV, skipping the pages with all the horrible things you’ve done in your life. God did not mistake you for your brother, friend, or neighbor. Please understand this: God is calling you to follow him.

So don’t feel bad when you are unsure about your calling because you think you are not worthy. It happens. I happened to Moses, Gideon, Saul, and many others in the Bible. It still happens to me!

Instead of doubting yourself and your calling, I urge you to answer him the way God’s people have for thousands of years: here I am. God knows. God does not make mistakes. And most importantly, he does not care where you’ve been. He cares about where you’re going.

About this Plan

We Don't Care Where You've Been, We Care Where You're Going

Christians say that God's forgiveness is real and complete, but somehow, we still carry the baggage of our old lives wherever we go. We walk around as if God and his Church still hold our sins against us. It is time for us to believe that in God's kingdom, we don't care where you've been; we care where you're going.
