Draw Near - PrayerSample

Jesus teaches us about how to pray. You may have heard of this prayer, known as The Lord’s Prayer. Jesus begins His prayer with the words, “Our Father in heaven”.
If you travel to another country that speaks the same language as yours, you’ll soon discover that they use different names for the same objects. In Australia it’s called a footpath, in America it’s called a sidewalk. Aussies call it a torch and American’s call it a flashlight.
The Bible has different names for God. You might have seen God being called Shepherd, King, Lord, Father, Most High or Everlasting. When you hear others pray, they may say, “Dear God”, “Father God”, “Heavenly Father” or “Lord God”. You might begin to wonder which is the right thing to say! You can use the words that feel most comfortable for you. Jesus’ example of prayer shows us that prayer isn’t about saying big words to sound impressive, it’s about our close relationship with God.

About this Plan

This devotional is designed to lead children and pre-teens to draw near to God through prayer. We want to learn to pray because of who God is, not what He does and to understand Holy Spirit helps us pray.
