Pursuing Your Spouse in Marriage | Part 2Sample
Pursue a Project Together
When you and your spouse were engaged and planning your wedding day, you probably dreamed of the life you would share. Your life since that day might be just like you hoped, but it’s much more likely that things have gone a bit differently. Wherever you are today, your assignment today is to remember and recapture the fun of dreaming together. Dreaming together is a way to pursue your spouse as you pursue hopes and dreams together.
It’s easy to lose this in marriage and become more like business partners who run a home together or roommates just sharing space. But God is always working in and around us, so we have purpose individually and as a couple. 1 Peter 4 exhorts us to be active and intentional and to look for ways to use the gifts God has given you. What has been life-giving, refreshing, and enjoyable for the two of you? What is God calling you to do together that will impact the world around you? What needs can you serve together?
There are as many ways to dream as there are couples! God has created something unique by pairing the two of you, and no other marriage will ever be exactly like yours. You can dream, give, and serve. It may be organizing a kickball tournament, playing board games, or riding bikes; you may show hospitality by opening your home to host dinner or provide a safe place to stay. You may give financially, encourage others, volunteer together; serve meals, or tutor kids.
Being excited about the same things helps us to connect and bond. Looking forward to something together pulls us closer. Shared vision, mission, and fun revitalize the unity in our marriage and can also help others in the process. Proverbs 11 instructs that “those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” Look for who God has put in your lives. Look for things that are life-giving and fruitful. Ask Him how He can use the two of you together to serve His Kingdom purpose right where you are today.
