Daily Prayers for Grieving Hearts: A 21-Day Plan for Comfort on the Road to RecoverySample
OUR MATTERS ARE IN HIS HANDS
But You Yourself have seen trouble and grief, observing it in order to take the matter into Your hands. PSALM 10:14
How much does grief weigh? How many pounds of pressure can our feeble hearts withstand before giving way to the heaviness that presses in around us? Enough to immobilize even the most stalwart of souls; enough to push the very breath out of our lungs and resist our attempts at filling them again; and enough to reveal that we are no match for carrying the weight in our own strength. The good news is, we don’t have to. Through His resurrecting power, God gladly takes matters into His own hands and resuscitates our hope. But there’s even more. He is also the lifter of our heavy heads (Psalm 3:3), the healer of our broken hearts (Psalm 147:3), and the sustainer of His righteous children, enough so that they will never be moved (Psalm 55:22)—and never is a long time. God knew we’d face grievous times, which is why He makes it clear that He is here to help and save.
Father, the weight of heaviness I feel inside is sometimes too much to bear. Please take it from me. Please heal my heart and firmly plant my feet on solid ground that won’t give way. I need Your strength; I need Your power; I need Your loving arms fixed around me, so I’ll know You’re with me with every step I take. Take my life into Your own hands and allow me to rest in Your presence. With You, I can go on. With You, I can endure. With You, my hope is strong for the time when my heart is once again filled with Your joy, and I can praise You for all the goodness You have done.
IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.

About this Plan
Grief has many phases, and some phases make it difficult for us to find the words or motivation to pray. In the moments when we need God the most but can’t seem to connect with Him, this 21-day reading plan can give us language to bridge the gap. It helps you remember that God is close to the brokenhearted, deeply attentive to your pain, and capable of healing and restoring all of us. Each day, read a short message about a promise from God, find a corresponding Scripture, and let the daily prayer guide your time with the Lord.
