DAY 2 OF 5

The Unending Wait

One day I was having dinner with my friend. I poured out my heart to her, telling her how tired I was of waiting and believing for a good man who would be a potential husband. I had spent years waiting and trusting God but had not seen the results, and I was fed up. After she quietly listened to me rant, she looked at me and said something I will never forget: "You have come to a fine dining restaurant and placed your order before God. Now you must wait, as this is part of the fine dining experience. But you seem to have a fast-food mentality. You want a McDonald's Happy Meal. You think it will bring you your 'happily ever after', but instead, it will make you gain excess weight and feel miserable." As much as I hated that she was right, her words rang true. I wanted the man that God had for me now. If he had come yesterday, it would have been even better. I was having trouble waiting because God was moving too slowly for my liking. I had to resist the urge to take matters into my own hands and speed things up. I knew in my heart that God wanted me to wait on Him.

Whether we like it or not, everything in life takes time and must go through a process. The Bible reminds us to wait on the Lord patiently. It’s a tough pill to swallow, given that we live in a society where we want things to happen instantaneously.

But what happens when God has you in His waiting room? God often uses the wait to achieve a two-fold purpose that allows you to become the person he wants you to be and accomplish the work that he has set for you in this season. The Bible teaches us that those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength and soar on wings like eagles.

As painful as it is to wait, it produces great rewards in and through you if you embrace the wait instead of aborting the wait. Although there is discomfort in the wait, as you endure unfulfilled desires, God has not forgotten you, and He will make everything beautiful in time.

Ask God what he wants you to do as you wait and whom you must become through the wait.
