Empty Nest Full and Blessed a 5 -Day Reading Plan by Denita ArnoldSample
DAY FOUR: WHEN YOU WONDER - "WHAT DO I DO NOW?"
After a full house, there had to be a shift in my thinking. I had lived and believed the notion that I was made for backpacks and school parties, laundry, dinner, dishes, and all the things of caring for and rearing others. While those things matter, we are still made for more.
When all the tasks, hats, and roles I assumed ceased from my daily routine, I had to ask God - "What do I do now?"
God showed me my heart for serving my family and was not limited to meeting their needs. While reminding me of who I was in Him, he coupled that with a new awareness of my gifts. 1 Peter 4:10 assures us that each has been given a gift. Our gifts are not only for our purposes and for the people we love. Our gifts are given to us to advance God's kingdom.
We can search deep to discover our "sweet spots" and recall where we thrive. Our "sweet spot" is where our gifts show up the greatest. The space that brings us joy and gives joy to others. It's most likely the thing you have been doing all along. It's deep inside you and waiting to be unleashed in new forms. I have a "sweet spot" for creating new spaces, writing words, and speaking encouragement into the hearts of others. This empty nest season is providing the margin to do these things.
We can ask God how He wants us to use our gifts for the good of others and to bring Him glory. A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great (Proverbs 18:16). God wants to use us so that He will show us. Be alert and willing to move into this new season with confidence. You will know what to do next when you know your identity and your gifts.
- Have you discovered your "sweet spot" or gifts?
- Pray and ask God to help you discern what He has next for you.
- Journal what God reveals to you and commit to using your gifts to serve Him.
