God of the Real WorldSample

Q: Who is God?
A: God is the loving creator and sustainer of everything. He is eternal and unchanging in his goodness, wisdom, and power.
It seems so simple: God made us, knows us, and loves us. Yet we often forget, misunderstand, or ignore him, missing out on a relationship with God that has the power to transform us! So what’s stopping us? Sin.
Our sin is like darkness: We can’t see anything and stumble trying to find our way. Sin is at the root of every problem, pain, and evil in the world and ourselves. Covered in the darkness of sin, we can’t recognize God for who he is, and we don’t see ourselves as who we are: people who were made to know and love God.
Walking with God is like stepping into the light: finally seeing the world as it truly is, with God, the source of all truth, illuminating our path. God invites us to walk into the light of real life with him.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
Once we step into the light and see the truth, we can’t go back to the darkness. God transforms our thoughts, emotions, and attitudes, and we can finally see the truth of who God made us to be and how he wants us to live.
Read: Isaiah 43:10-11 and Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Reflection Questions:
- How does God reveal himself to us?
- How does knowing God change how you see yourself and the world around you?
