[Uniqueness of Christ] Jesus’ Unique Request

DAY 3 OF 3

The Blood of Christ: His Physical Death and What His Blood Covers

Blood is an important agent in every living body. It is the vehicle by which oxygen is transported throughout the body, making life possible. If we did not have blood in our bodies, there would be no life. Blood is necessary for the creation of a new being.

Thus, the blood of Christ takes on great relevance for us who are His body.

When Jesus was with His disciples celebrating the Passover for the last time, He told them that the wine represented His blood, which would be shed for the remission of the sins of many, and that they should drink that wine.

This was the sign of a new covenant that God was establishing with humankind through Jesus Christ. It is a covenant that was prophesied by Ezekiel and Jeremiah, and it was fulfilled with the shedding of the blood of Jesus on the cross. This new covenant is the one in which God says, “I will put My laws into their hearts.” He will have a personal relationship with us.

The first time in the Bible we see blood being shed is in the book of Genesis. Adam and Eve had sinned. Their sin had allowed them to realize that they were naked, so they felt ashamed before God. He graciously provided coverings for them by sacrificing an innocent animal.

A requirement of God for the remission of sin is the shedding of blood, a sacrifice. Jesus paid with His death for the redemption of the whole world, and everyone who believes in Him participates in that redemption so that their sins are covered by His blood. There is no greater sacrifice; no other sacrifice is necessary.

This new covenant that began more than two thousand years ago with the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross gives each of us the possibility to have a personal and unique relationship with God. A deep friendship with God is now possible thanks to Jesus’ work on the cross. Thanks to the new covenant established through this sacrifice, we can experience closeness with our Creator and have the opportunity for a new life free from the slavery of sin.

God’s love for us is so great that by Jesus’ blood, we have been brought near to Him. He extends His abundant grace and mercy to us without our deserving it. Thank you, Lord, for Your sacrifice and infinite love and for the new covenant in Jesus.

About this Plan

[Uniqueness of Christ] Jesus’ Unique Request

This first part of the series, “The Uniqueness of Christ,” shows us Jesus’ unique request and how it relates to the body of Christ. This profound yet timely plan helps us understand why the physical body of Jesus Christ had to be broken, the new body that He gave birth to with his death, and the importance of His blood as a sign of a new covenant for us.
