Guard Your HeartSample

Read God’s Word
“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
One way to keep your heart pure is to fill it with God’s words. God explicitly commanded the Israelites to do this: “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart” (Deuteronomy 11:18).
Having God’s Words in your heart means knowing God’s will and basing your worldview upon it. It means living according to God’s decrees as much as you can. Someone who has God’s Word in his heart takes it as a guideline for his opinions and choices. That protects him from many sins and guards him against the lies and deceptions of Satan.
Psalm 1 describes a man who does exactly this: “His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law, he meditates day and night.” Therefore, this man is “blessed.” He prospers in all he does.
Just as our bodies become strong and healthy if we eat the right foods, so our hearts become strong and healthy if we take in God’s Word.
What does your “diet” look like?
